Today, September 1, all passengers using Rīgas satiksme buses, trolleybuses and trams will be able to travel free of charge, the company has confirmed. The free ride applies specifically to the first day of the new school year.

Passengers will not need to register their trip on this day — meaning there is no need to validate a ticket or pass as is normally required. This arrangement is set out in binding regulations of the Riga City Council concerning fare concessions.

Timetable changes

With the start of the new school year and the end of the summer season, Riga's public transport is gradually shifting to autumn schedules. Starting today, new timetables take effect on several routes — tram route 1, bus route 3, and trolleybus routes 4 and 17.

Changes to timetables on other routes may be introduced gradually in the coming days as the network adjusts to the autumn season.
