Candidate List Submission for 15th Saeima Elections Concludes with 14 Lists

A total of 14 party lists with 1,434 candidates have been submitted for the 15th Saeima elections, marking a decline compared to the previous elections.

Deadline for Submissions

On July 14, the Central Election Commission (CEC) closed the submission of candidate lists for the 15th Saeima elections. Lists could be delivered in person at Smilšu Street 4 in Riga or remotely via a designated application. In total, 14 political forces submitted lists, nominating 1,434 candidates, averaging 14.3 candidates per parliamentary seat.

Regional Breakdown

The highest number of candidates was registered in the Riga electoral district – 527 for 38 seats (13.9 per mandate). In Vidzeme, 347 candidates are running for 26 seats (13.3), in Zemgale – 207 for 13 seats (15.9), in Latgale – 180 for 12 seats (15.0), and in Kurzeme – 173 for 11 seats (15.7). The strongest competition is observed in Zemgale, where nearly 16 candidates compete for each available seat.

Comparison with Previous Elections

Compared to the 14th Saeima elections, candidate activity has decreased. Previously, 19 lists with 1,832 candidates were registered, whereas now the numbers are lower by five lists and 398 candidates (a 22% drop). The competition per seat has declined from 18.3 to 14.3 candidates.
