Day 1586 of the war: Russia strikes Kyiv with ballistic missiles; Ukrainian drones hit Russian oil refinery
Russia attacked Kyiv with ballistic missiles on the night of June 28, injuring two people and causing fires. Ukrainian drones struck an oil refinery in Slavyansk-na-Kubani, killing one person.

On the night of June 28, Russia launched a ballistic missile attack on Kyiv. Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, reported that one person was injured in the Darnytskyi district. He later updated that the number of injured had risen to two. Fires broke out near a residential building, at a car repair shop, and in a non-residential building.
That same night, the Ukrainian Air Force recorded numerous launches of drones, missiles, and guided aerial bombs toward Kharkiv, Dnipro, Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts, as well as other cities and regions. Air raid alerts were issued in many areas. Information on damage and casualties is not yet available.
Ukrainian drones attacked an oil refinery in Slavyansk-na-Kubani, Krasnodar Krai, Russia. According to OSINT analysis cited by several Telegram channels, a fire broke out at the refinery. Krasnodar Krai Governor Veniamin Kondratyev stated that one person was killed and several houses were damaged by falling drone debris. The Slavyansk oil refinery is one of Russia's largest independent refineries, with a capacity of about 4-5 million tons per year. It has been a target of Ukrainian forces multiple times.
On the morning of June 28, Russia's Ministry of Defense reported that during the night, air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 213 Ukrainian drones over Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Kaluga, Kursk, Oryol, Rostov, Ryazan, Tambov, Tula, Moscow oblasts, Krasnodar Krai, annexed Crimea, and the waters of the Azov and Black Seas.
According to the Ukrainian General Staff, Russian combat losses from February 24, 2022, to June 28, 2026, are approximately: personnel – 1,400,970 (+1,250), tanks – 12,063 (+3), armored fighting vehicles – 24,844 (+9), artillery systems – 44,920 (+63), multiple rocket launchers – 1,901 (+2), air defense systems – 1,454 (+7), tactical drones – 377,500 (+1,889), vehicles and fuel tankers – 113,135 (+501), and special equipment – 4,360 (+7).
