Teenager Moody knocks four-time champion Higgins out of British Open
19-year-old Englishman Stan Moody beat four-time champion John Higgins 4-2 in the last 16 of the British Open, reaching the quarter-finals for a second straight year. Several other last-16 matches were also decided in Cheltenham.
Nineteen-year-old Stan Moody produced an upset at the British Open in Cheltenham, defeating four-time champion John Higgins 4-2 in the last 16.
The match swung back and forth early on, with Moody taking the opening frame and later leading 2-1, only for the 51-year-old Scot to level the score on both occasions. The turning point came when Moody put together a break of 46 to move ahead 3-2. In the deciding sixth frame, despite Higgins having built a 61-0 lead, Moody fought back with a clearance of 69, finishing on the black to seal victory.
Halifax-born Moody reaches the quarter-finals for the second year running, where he will meet fellow Englishman Liam Highfield.

Judd Trump cruised past David Gilbert with a 4-0 win, compiling breaks of 118 and 105 in the closing two frames.
Cheltenham's own Jack Lisowski beat Lyu Haotian 4-1 and will face four-time world champion Mark Selby on Friday, after Selby edged past Ukraine's Iulian Boiko 4-2.
