The 2027 Ice Hockey World Championship will kick off with a match in a football stadium. Hosts Germany will face Switzerland, who have reached the final three times in a row but lost each time. The game will take place at the Veltins-Arena, which has a capacity of 61,574 for football matches, but the 2010 championship opener between Germany and the USA drew 77,803 spectators (Germany won 2-1 in overtime). The cheapest tickets cost €39, with sales starting on Thursday, July 16. The full match schedule will be announced in September, when the rest of the tickets go on sale. Latvia will play in the Mannheim group against Switzerland, Finland, Sweden, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, and Ukraine.
