On August 29, Kyiv's metro and public transport to halt for a minute of silence
On August 29 at 9:00, Kyiv's metro and surface public transport will stop for one minute to honor defenders who died fighting for Ukraine's independence and territorial integrity. Full restoration of metro service afterward could take up to two hours.
Kyiv's Department of Transport Infrastructure has announced that on August 29 at 9:00, the capital's public transport will halt for a minute of silence to honor Ukrainian defenders who died fighting for the country's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The measure is being carried out under a Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine order dated May 6, 2026, No. 413-r.
Metro to pause train movement
The Kyiv metro will halt train traffic for one minute. Due to technological processes, trains at some stations may remain stopped for 4–5 minutes. After the moment of silence, train service will resume gradually, since restarting movement after a stoppage is a technological process requiring extra time. Returning to the normal schedule is expected to take up to two hours, so passengers are asked to factor this into their travel plans.
Surface transport will also stop
On Saturday, August 29, wherever technically possible, the capital's surface public transport will also stop at stops for one minute during the nationwide moment of silence. Drivers and passengers are asked to be understanding of the temporary halt.
The department noted that the minute of silence is a shared expression of gratitude and respect for those who gave their lives for Ukraine.
