50 Years After ‘Charlie’s Angels’ Premiere, Stars Reunite at the Emmys
“Charlie's Angels” actresses Jaclyn Smith, Kate Jackson and Cheryl Ladd reunited at the 78th Emmy Awards to mark the show's 50th anniversary and honor their late co-star Farrah Fawcett.
Stars of the iconic 1970s series “Charlie's Angels” shared a stage once again on Monday, September 14, at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. Jaclyn Smith, 80, Kate Jackson, 77, and Cheryl Ladd, 75, took the stage to present the award for Best Drama Series, marking the show's 50th anniversary.
Ceremony host Mariska Hargitay introduced them as “three beautiful and brave secret agents,” noting that the series had once captivated not only her but the entire world.
Honoring Farrah Fawcett
On stage, the actresses also paid tribute to their late co-star Farrah Fawcett, who died in 2009 at age 62 from anal cancer that had spread to her liver. Smith said Fawcett “is here with us in all of our shared memories.” Jackson called Fawcett “the most sparkling angel of them all,” adding that she was loved by millions around the world and would never be forgotten. Ladd smilingly recalled Fawcett's iconic 1976 photo in a red swimsuit.
The show's history
Jackson, Smith and Fawcett were the original stars when the series premiered in 1976. Fawcett left after the first season and was replaced by Ladd, who stayed until the show ended in 1981. Jackson departed after the third season in 1979.
Over five seasons and 115 episodes, the show followed three private detectives working for an agency run by the mysterious Charlie, becoming one of the era's most recognizable female-led TV projects. The story later moved to the big screen with a 2000 film starring Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu, followed by a sequel in 2003, and a new version in 2019 starring Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska.
