59-Year-Old Kazuyoshi Miura Scores First Goal in Four Years
The world's oldest professional footballer, Kazuyoshi Miura, scored his first goal since 2022 in the Emperor's Cup.
Kazuyoshi Miura, the world's oldest professional footballer, scored his first goal in four years during this week's Emperor's Cup match. The 59-year-old Japanese striker found the net in the 52nd minute, helping his team Fukushima United secure a 7-0 victory over Iwaki Furukawa. His goal made it 5-0.
This was Miura's first goal since November 2022, when he was playing for Suzuka Atletico. He is currently in his 42nd professional season. His loan deal from J2 League side Yokohama to Fukushima United has been extended until June 2027. Miura originally joined Yokohama in 2005 but hasn't played for the club since 2020.
Nicknamed "King Kazu," Miura is one of Japan's most beloved sports figures. He became the face of the newly founded J.League in 1993. With 89 caps and 55 goals for the Japanese national team, he has played professionally in Japan, Brazil, Italy, Croatia, Australia, and most recently Portugal. His former clubs include Santos, Palmeiras, Dinamo Zagreb, and Genoa.
Miura has previously stated his desire to continue playing professionally until at least age 60.
