The actor's longtime manager, Robert Aterman, confirmed the sad news. Aterman said he had the honor of representing Pastore for more than 30 years, long before 'The Sopranos' made him a global star. He described Pastore as one of the warmest and most generous people, who never turned away a fan asking for a photo or autograph and was always ready to share advice with young talent.
Born in the Bronx in 1946, Pastore took an unusual path to Hollywood. He served in the Vietnam War and later earned a degree in drama from Pace University. Thanks to his charisma and expressive features, he spent decades crafting the image of a mobster and a 'bad boy' on screen. He appeared in memorable roles in 'Goodfellas' (1990) and 'Carlito's Way' (1993), and was a frequent guest on 'Law & Order.' Most recently, he was seen in 'The Curse' (2024) and provided a voice role in 'Yellowjackets' (2025).
Despite his on-screen portrayals of killers and racketeers, Pastore had no ties to real crime. In an interview with Edge magazine, he recalled growing up in a traditional Italian-American family in New Rochelle, with memories of the smell of pizza and Friday-night roller skating. He said that playing mobster roles does not require relying on memories of criminals, because he did not know any — one simply has to use their own personality to create a great character.
