Two new exhibitions open at Tallinn's A-galerii
Tallinn's A-galerii opened two exhibitions on Monday, September 7 — a joint show by German and Czech artists and the first solo exhibition by South Estonian blacksmith Tarvo Porrosoon, built from recycled materials.
Two new exhibitions opened at Tallinn's A-galerii on Monday, September 7. The gallery's windows display a joint exhibition by German artist Christoph von Rhoden and Czech artist Štěpán Gala titled "Stretches" ("Venitused"), which uses railway rails as its material.
In the gallery's safe room, blacksmith, designer and jewelry artist Tarvo Porrosoon from South Estonia is presenting his first solo exhibition, "From Dust" ("Tolmust"), dedicated to the theme of recycling and reusing materials.
Jewelry made from discarded tools
Porrosoon's jewelry pieces, which the artist says are entirely wearable, are made from old files, lathe shavings, cast-iron fragments and discarded tools. He said he constantly collects waste material and sees value even in the pile of scrap on his workshop floor.
Porrosoon explained that his first pieces made from files emerged from a period when he himself felt like a rejected, discarded tool — a story of rising from the ashes that he tells about himself through the discarded tools he works with. He added that creating has become a way for him to release tension, reflect, draw conclusions and form new solutions, allowing anxious thoughts to settle in the background while he focuses on technical challenges.
Porrosoon's exhibition at A-galerii runs until September 26, while the works of the German and Czech artists will remain on view until November 30.
