The European U-22 Beach Volleyball Championship is taking place in Madrid, with Latvia represented by two duos — one in the men's and one in the women's competition. On Saturday, both Latvian pairs secured a place in the semifinals, giving the country double representation in the tournament's decisive stage.
In the men's competition, the semifinal spot was earned by Gustavs Auziņš and Kristians Fokerots, while in the women's competition it was Līva Ēbere and Deniela Konstantinova who advanced. Both duos have now guaranteed themselves a chance to compete for medals.
Semifinals on Sunday
The medal matches for both Latvian pairs are scheduled for Sunday. A semifinal win would send either duo directly into the tournament final, while a loss would still leave them a chance to fight for bronze in the small final.
The European U-22 Beach Volleyball Championship serves as an important developmental step for young athletes, allowing players up to 22 years old to gain international competition experience before moving on to senior-level tournaments.
