Adidas Cross Country Challenge: UNCG and Campbell compete in Cary
NC State swept both the men's and women's team titles at the adidas Cross Country Challenge in Cary, North Carolina, where UNC Greensboro and Campbell University also competed.
The meet
On Friday night, September 18, the adidas Cross Country Challenge was held at the WakeMed Soccer Park cross country course in Cary, North Carolina. It marked the second meet of the season for several college teams, including UNC Greensboro (UNCG) and Campbell University.
Women's 5K
Host school NC State won the women's 5K team title with 21 points, followed by South Carolina with 40. Among the 16 teams in the field, UNCG placed eighth with 215 points, while Campbell finished seventh with 203 points, ahead of fellow North Carolina programs UNC Pembroke and East Carolina. According to UNCG Athletics, Liberty (124 points), Richmond (143) and High Point (149) rounded out the top five teams.
Individually, Campbell senior Emily Pierce stood out, finishing 23rd overall in a personal-best 17:27.7 — the third-fastest 5K in program history, improving her previous best by nearly 30 seconds. UNCG's top finisher for the second straight meet was junior Hailey Meyers, who crossed the line 25th in 17:32.9.
Men's 6K
In the men's 6K, Wake Forest took the team title with 25 points, ahead of NC State (62) and Liberty (110). Campbell's men finished ninth with 288 points, led by freshman Ethan Rich, who placed 65th in 19:44.5 in his collegiate debut.
What's next
On October 2, Campbell will split its squad between two meets — the Dill Family Invitational in Greenville, N.C., and the Richmond Invitational in Richmond, Virginia. UNCG will compete the same day at its own Spartan Classic in Kernersville, North Carolina.
