Lawyer: three days after dog attack in Carnikava, police still haven't contacted victims' parents

Sworn lawyer Saulvedis Vārpiņš raised concerns on social media platform X about the State Police's handling of the aftermath of a dog attack that occurred on September 4 in Carnikava, in which six children and a teacher were injured. According to Vārpiņš, several parents of the injured children have contacted him, saying that three days after the incident no one from the police had reached out to them, and that when they called themselves, they were simply told to wait.

Warning about disappearing evidence

In his post, Vārpiņš stressed that visible signs of injury, such as bruising, can fade relatively quickly. He said he could not understand why police were delaying in referring the victims for a forensic medical examination. In his view, all injuries should be documented immediately rather than waiting until a forensic expert examination is officially ordered, since by then experts would largely have to rely on existing medical records rather than direct evidence from the incident itself.

Appeal to officials

In the same post, Vārpiņš addressed not only the State Police but also Interior Minister Jānis Dombrava and Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs, reminding them that officials had previously promised to give special attention to the Carnikava case.
