Scholarship for young Latvian sports talents established in memory of Aigars Fadejevs
A new scholarship named after Latvian athlete and sports physiotherapist Aigars Fadejevs has been created to support young sports talents, administered by the Vitols Foundation.
A memorial scholarship has been established in honor of Aigars Fadejevs, a prominent Latvian athlete and sports physiotherapist, aiming to support young people who wish to build their future in sports and in working with people. The scholarship was founded by Eva Fadejeva and is administered by the Vitols Foundation.
The first three recipients, students of the Murjani Sports Gymnasium, will be honored on September 1. In total, five young talents will receive the scholarship: three students from Murjani Sports Gymnasium, one representative of the race-walking discipline, and one student from the Latvian Academy of Sport Education at Riga Stradins University.
Support for rising talent
Eva Fadejeva says her husband understood well how much work and how many resources are needed for a young person to develop their talent and reach their goals. She notes that support from others can be especially important early in a career, which is why she wanted to honor his memory in a way that offers practical help to young athletes and future sports professionals.
About Aigars Fadejevs
Aigars Fadejevs (1975–2024) was a Latvian track and field athlete and race walker who won a silver medal in the 50 km race walk at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Over his career he competed in three Olympic Games, four World Championships, and three European Championships. After retiring from competitive sport, he became a highly regarded sports physiotherapist, sought out by well-known athletes as well as people suffering from sedentary work, overexertion, or pain.
The scholarship is administered by the Vitols Foundation, which supports capable but low-income young people in studying at Latvian universities by awarding its own scholarships and managing those established by other donors.
