Rowing Champion Rescues Woman from Shark Attack in Australia
A rowing champion in Australia saved a woman from a shark attack. The victim sustained serious injuries and is in critical but stable condition. Authorities are reviewing drone usage rules to improve shark monitoring.

In Australia, a rowing champion named Verko rescued a woman after a shark attack at Kūdji Beach. He noticed a three-to-four-meter-long shark near a group of swimmers and was about to alert lifeguards when a woman disappeared underwater. "The water around her was red," he said. The shark released the woman, and Verko managed to bring her to shore, where lifeguards, medics, and police were waiting.
The woman sustained serious injuries to her arms and left leg and was taken to a hospital. As of Sunday, her condition was described as critical but stable. Following the attack, authorities closed Kūdji Beach and several nearby beaches for 24 hours.
With shark attacks on the rise in Australia this year, concerns about coastal safety have increased. The incident has prompted officials to consider changes to drone usage regulations. Lifeguards at Kūdji Beach already use drones to monitor sharks, but their operations are restricted by airspace rules near Sydney Airport. The Civil Aviation Safety Authority has announced it will review the restrictions to allow more effective shark tracking and timely warnings for swimmers.
