Person detained on suspicion of sexual abuse of children — dance school director's letter hints at incident

Latvia's State Police have detained a person suspected of committing acts of a sexual nature against minors, the agency confirmed to LETA.

The detained individual has been placed in pre-trial detention as a security measure. The investigation is ongoing, and police are not yet releasing further details about the circumstances or those involved.

Separately, it has emerged that the director of a dance school in the Zemgale region sent parents a letter stating that a very serious incident has recently shaken Latvia's dance community. In the letter, the director stressed the importance of talking with children and young people about safety, personal boundaries, and relationships with adults in positions of authority.

She encouraged parents to discuss the topic with their children at home as well. While no official link has been confirmed between the police detention and the incident referenced by the director, the timing and similarity of the content suggest they may be connected.

No official information about the detained person's identity, possible ties to the dance community, or other circumstances has been made public. Police say the investigation continues.
