Aizkraukle Invites Public Nominations for “Event of the Year” Ahead of 60th Anniversary
Aizkraukle Municipality in Latvia is asking institutions, businesses, organisations and residents to nominate the most significant events of 2026 by 27 November. Previously, the organisers chose the events themselves.

Aizkraukle Municipality in Latvia is inviting residents, institutions, businesses, non-governmental organisations and sector specialists to submit proposals for the most significant events of 2026 in the town of Aizkraukle and its rural parish. The events will be featured at the “Event of the Year” ceremony, held on the town's 60th anniversary on 10 January next year.
What is changing
The “Event of the Year” ceremony traditionally takes place on the town's birthday and honours people involved in the previous year's most important events. Until now, the events were put forward by the organisers, mainly municipal representatives. This time the selection will work differently, with a wider circle of people able to make proposals.
Categories
Events can be nominated in the following categories:
- Society;
- Education;
- Medicine;
- Social work;
- Youth;
- Entrepreneurship;
- Culture;
- Sport;
- Infrastructure;
- Aizkraukle's name in Latvia;
- Aizkraukle's name in the world;
- Commendable initiative.
How to apply
A submission must state the category, the name of the event and a short description, along with the people the nominator wishes to thank. Proposals must be sent by 27 November as a free-form email to the address given by the municipality. Adding a photograph that illustrates the event is recommended.
