Latvian TV show to test Saeima candidates' crisis decision-making before elections

Latvian Television's investigative programme 'Aizliegtais paņēmiens' (The Forbidden Method) is preparing a new test for candidates ahead of this year's Saeima elections. This time, candidates for parliamentary seats will be asked to make decisions in an artificially created crisis situation, with the programme assessing how they act under such circumstances.

Previous experience

Ahead of the last Saeima elections, the programme had already used a similar approach, organising game-format tests for representatives of various political forces. Back then, the main goal was to determine how people from different parties could cooperate with one another and what their views were on topical issues being discussed in society.

The new format

In this year's version, the emphasis is placed on decision-making under extreme conditions — the game will simulate a crisis situation in which candidates will have to act promptly and justify their choices. This format allows voters to see how potential representatives of the people might behave in an actual crisis, when decisions must be made quickly and with limited information.

The programme continues its tradition of using unconventional formats to reveal politicians' character traits and decision-making styles ahead of elections, rather than focusing solely on campaign promises.
