A Riga resident found himself in court after his car was fined on the evening of November 12, 2025, for failing to display a resident parking permit. At 10:04 PM, a municipal police officer noticed that the permit was not placed behind the windshield, even though the car was parked near the owner's home, where parking was reserved exclusively for residents of that building.

The driver was issued a fine of 8 penalty units, equivalent to €40. However, the man contested the fine, arguing that he actually possessed a valid permit but had simply forgotten to place it visibly.

In court, he successfully demonstrated his entitlement to use the parking spot, and the fine was overturned. This case highlights that even a minor oversight can result in a fine, but it is possible to defend one's rights.
