Aizpute to Install Two New Musical Benches Dedicated to Tālivaldis Deksnis and Pēteris Vasks
This July, Aizpute will install two new outdoor musical benches honoring organist Tālivaldis Deksnis and composer Pēteris Vasks. The project also includes renovating a fountain and improving two wooden bridges.
In July of this year, Aizpute has started works on improving the urban environment, which includes installing two new musical benches. These benches are dedicated to two renowned Latvian musicians born in Aizpute: organist Tālivaldis Deksnis and composer Pēteris Vasks.
The bench for Deksnis will be placed at Atmodas iela 8, near the Aizpute St. John's Lutheran Church, while the bench for Vasks will be located at Kuldīgas iela 24A, close to the Aizpute Baptist Church. These will be the second and third such environmental objects in the city – the first bench, dedicated to musician Mārtiņš Freimanis, was installed two years ago near the museum.
In addition to the benches, the project includes renovating a fountain on Atmodas iela and enhancing the design of two wooden bridges that connect the historic center of Aizpute with a scenic recreational area on an islet next to the stadium.
The total project cost is planned at 51,650 euros, of which 20,999.99 euros come from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) and 30,650 euros from the municipality. This amount covers the artistic concept and fabrication of the benches by artist and designer Ainars Alžāns. Construction is carried out by SIA “JMK Būve” and supervision by SIA “SB uzraudzība”.
