Defending champion Murphy exits British Open
Defending champion Shaun Murphy's British Open title defence ended in the second round with a 2-4 loss to David Gilbert. Elsewhere in Cheltenham, new world number one Zhao Xintong and Judd Trump both advanced.
Defending champion Shaun Murphy has been eliminated from the British Open in the second round, losing 2-4 to fellow Englishman David Gilbert in Cheltenham.
Gilbert opened with a break of 117 to take the first frame. Murphy hit back, winning the next two frames with breaks of 64 and 103. However, Gilbert regained control, producing three more breaks above fifty in the following three frames to seal his place in the last 32.

New world number one Zhao Xintong overcame a fightback from Welshman Daniel Wells, who had trailed 0-3, to win 4-2.
Judd Trump came from behind to beat Ricky Walden 4-2, compiling breaks of 96 and 87 along the way.
China's Bai Yulu narrowly missed out on victory in a last-frame decider against Ross Muir, despite having looked in control after a break of 59.
