Police detain sports coach on suspicion of child sexual abuse
The State Police have launched criminal proceedings against a sports coach arrested on suspicion of sexual violence against minors.

The State Police have initiated criminal proceedings against a sports coach on suspicion of sexual violence against children. Rūta Strautniece, senior specialist of the Public Relations Department, stated that the case was opened under Section 160, part 4 of the Criminal Law, which covers sexual violence resulting in serious consequences or committed against a person under sixteen years of age.
The detained individual has been remanded in custody. In the interests of the investigation, the police are not providing further comments at this time. It was revealed that a parent of a child alerted the sports club official about the alleged abuse, who then notified the police. Procedural actions were carried out at a sports camp attended by children aged eight to ten, leading to the coach's arrest.
The sports club has terminated its cooperation with the suspect. A club representative emphasized that the coach had worked with children and youth for several years without any prior complaints or indications of misconduct.
