Man arrested for stealing fuel from gas stations using Porsche and Mercedes

Police have arrested a 26-year-old man who, since March, had been stealing fuel from at least six gas stations in Riga and Pieriga using luxury cars.

A man suspected of serial theft of fuel from gas stations in Riga and Pieriga has been arrested. The crimes were committed between March and July 2026 using luxury vehicles, including a Porsche and a Mercedes-Benz, which belonged to another person but were in his possession. The vehicles had illegally attached foreign license plates that were regularly changed.

In one instance, the suspect also stole sandwiches from a gas station. The arrested individual is a 26-year-old Latvian citizen with no previous criminal record. The police initiated criminal proceedings under Section 180, Part 1 of the Criminal Law for theft of small amount.

The arrest took place on July 8 in the Pardaugava district, and the suspect is currently held in a temporary detention facility. Searches were conducted at his residence and in the vehicles he used. So far, six episodes of theft have been identified, but police suspect there may be more elsewhere in Latvia. The investigation is ongoing.

The State Police reminds that every person is presumed innocent until proven guilty according to law.
