Dina Mitte, the mother of American crime drama "Breaking Bad" actor Roy Frank "RJ" Mitte, has spoken at length for the first time about the death of her son, who was 34. In an emotional interview with the US network NBC News, she described how she found him dead on Monday, 12 October, and said she had been worried about his emotional state for months.

The final hours

Dina knew her son had a difficult weekend and had been dealing with various struggles. On Monday morning she tried to call him at 11 a.m. but got no answer. This did not initially alarm her, as he often slept until midday. She bought lunch and took it to him, and that is when she found him.

She stressed that no mother should have to go through such an experience. According to her, he left no farewell note or explanation, and that is what she finds hardest now. The exact circumstances that led to the tragedy remain unknown.

Efforts to help

Dina said she had spent three months trying to persuade her son to go to therapy, but he insisted he was coping and would deal with it himself. She now regrets not pushing harder. She also mentioned difficulties in his relationship with his fiancée, Kennedy Suares, but said she did not know all the details.

Several colleagues from the show have been in touch since his death, among them Bryan Cranston, who played Walter White, the father of Mitte's character. Dina called their conversation incredibly emotional.

Remembered

Mitte became widely known for playing Walter White Jr. in the series, which aired from 2008 to 2013. His character had cerebral palsy, a neurological condition the actor himself has lived with since childhood. He advocated for the rights and inclusion of people with disabilities, worked with charities and encouraged young people facing similar challenges. His mother said she wants him remembered for what he achieved, not only for the manner of his death.
