Albania's PM says EU is misleading Ukraine on membership
Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has said Ukraine will not be able to join the EU through the conventional accession process and called for a change in approach to membership talks.

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has stated that the European Union is not being truthful with Ukraine regarding its prospects for membership.
According to Rama, Ukraine will not be able to become an EU member state through the standard accession procedure that has traditionally been applied to other candidate countries. He indicated that the current approach to negotiations on Ukraine's membership needs to be reconsidered.
The Albanian prime minister called on EU institutions and member states to change the way talks with Ukraine on EU accession are conducted, though he did not elaborate in detail on what alternative approach should be taken.
Albania itself has held EU candidate status for several years and remains closely involved in the enlargement process, which lends additional weight to Rama's remarks as reflecting his country's own experience in negotiations with Brussels.
