Alekna takes victory at Diamond League meeting in Eugene
Lithuanian Mykolas Alekna won the men's discus with 71.06m, overtaking Slovenia's Kristjan Ceh. The meeting also featured wins by Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, Tate Taylor, and others.

World record holder Mykolas Alekna secured a victory in the men's discus throw at the Diamond League meeting in Eugene, Oregon, on Saturday. The Lithuanian threw 71.06 meters on his fifth attempt to overtake Slovenia's Kristjan Ceh, who had led until then and finished second with 69.94 meters. Alekna, also an Olympic and world vice-champion, made his first Diamond League appearance this season.
Other highlights: In the men's mile, 20-year-old Australian Cameron Myers clocked 3:46.06. The women's 100m went to American Melissa Jefferson-Wooden in a photo finish (10.88) over Sha'Carri Richardson (10.89). In the men's 200m, 18-year-old American Tate Taylor ran 19.75. Botswana's Colin Kebinatshipi won the men's 400m in 44.00.
World champion Kenyan Liliana Odira took the women's 800m in 1:56.19, while American Niki Hiltz won the women's mile. In the men's 110m hurdles, American Jamal Britt set a meeting record of 12.86. Masai Russell equaled the meeting record in the women's 100m hurdles (12.23).
In field events, American Tara Davis-Woodhall won the women's long jump with 7.13m. American Chase Jackson took the women's shot put (20.56m), and Italy's Leonardo Fabbri won the men's shot put (22.74m). The next Diamond League meeting is in Monaco next week, with the final in Brussels on September 4-5.
