Alienware AW3926QW: A Large Curved OLED Monitor With Strong Color at a Lower Price
Alienware's new 39-inch ultrawide gaming monitor uses an LG-made RGB Stripe tandem OLED panel, delivering high brightness and accurate color at a notably lower price than its main rival, though its design and build feel more basic in return.
The Alienware AW3926QW is one of only two ultrawide monitors currently available with an RGB Stripe tandem OLED panel manufactured by LG. This panel type uses a different sub-pixel arrangement that improves color performance at high brightness levels and produces sharper text. The only other monitor with this panel is LG's own UltraGear Evo GX9.
Brightness and Color
The monitor stands out for its brightness within the OLED category. Its rated maximum SDR brightness of 300 nits was confirmed during testing. In HDR mode, the manufacturer claims up to 1,300 nits, though testing reached a peak of 1,011 nits — still among the higher figures recorded for OLED monitors.
Color coverage reaches 99 percent of the DCI-P3 gamut and 93 percent of AdobeRGB, figures comparable to the best OLED monitors currently available. Color accuracy was also rated highly, making the display suitable not only for gaming but for creative professional work as well.
Price and Connectivity
The AW3926QW is priced at roughly $1,100, considerably less than the LG UltraGear Evo GX9, which launched near an $1,800 MSRP and currently retails for about $1,600.
Connectivity is extensive: two HDMI 2.1 inputs, one DisplayPort 2.1 UHBR20 input, and a USB-C input that also supports DisplayPort 2.1 and delivers 90 watts of power. All video inputs support the monitor's maximum resolution and refresh rate. Downstream, the monitor offers three USB-A ports rated at 5 Gbps, a single USB-C port with the same data rate and up to 15 watts of power delivery, and a 3.5mm audio jack.
Trade-offs in Design
The lower price shows up mainly in the monitor's appearance and build quality. According to the reviewer, Alienware's current design language feels too plain for the brand, with little that stands out beyond its curved shape — and even that isn't particularly distinctive, since most ultrawide monitors share the same curved form.
