The US Department of Homeland Security confirmed to Reuters and the Washington Post that British national Milo Yiannopoulos has been deported to the UK following his arrest by ICE on Thursday. Yiannopoulos entered the United States legally in 2019 but remained after his visa expired. A final removal order was issued on July 22 after he failed to appear at an immigration court hearing.

Rise to notoriety

Yiannopoulos built his public profile as an editor at Steve Bannon's Breitbart and as an early backer of Donald Trump. He has been linked to numerous controversies, including reports that he helped arrange a dinner between Trump, Kanye West, and white nationalist Nick Fuentes. He was also a central figure in the Gamergate online harassment campaign.

Falling out with allies

In recent years his behavior has strained relationships with prominent right-wing figures, including MAGA influencer Laura Loomer. Yiannopoulos has denied endorsing statutory rape or pedophilia, though he has previously suggested it could be acceptable for an adult to have a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old.
