Maintenance non-payers owe the Guarantee Fund over €400 million in Latvia
People in Latvia who fail to pay child maintenance owe more than €400 million in total, a debt owed to the Guarantee Fund. These debts have no statute of limitations, but recovering them can take many years.

People in Latvia who do not pay child maintenance, known as alimony, have together built up debts of more than €400 million. According to the report, this sum is owed to the Guarantee Fund.
The situation was described on the LSM programme in Russian «Обсудим вечером» («Let's Discuss in the Evening»).
Recovery may drag on
The maintenance debts have no limitation period, so they do not lapse over time. The programme stressed, however, that collecting such sums can stretch over many years.
The source material gives no further details, such as the number of debtors or how the debts are recovered.
