Alcohol Restrictions Not Cutting Sales But Changing Buying Habits

Alcohol sales restrictions introduced in Latvia a year ago have not significantly reduced overall alcohol purchases but have altered consumer shopping habits, according to retailers surveyed by LETA. Customers have adjusted their shopping times to buy alcohol during permitted hours.

Small rural shops have been most affected by the restrictions due to their limited ability to adapt. However, a positive trend has been observed: alcohol consumption in society is declining year by year, while non-alcoholic beverages are gaining popularity. Retailers note that these changes are a long-term benefit for public health.
