Alonso outlines plan to integrate record signing Rogers with Palmer

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has stated he has a clear plan to play new midfielder Morgan Rogers alongside Cole Palmer. Rogers became the most expensive British player in history after his £117 million move from Aston Villa last week. Alonso believes Rogers will make an immediate impact, despite the 24-year-old being on holiday following England's World Cup campaign.

Rogers has signed a six-year contract with the option for a further year. Alonso insisted that Rogers, who has yet to join pre-season training, will quickly adapt to the club's system and his teammates. The manager highlighted the strong friendship between Rogers and Palmer, noting that they both expressed a desire to play together.

"I have a plan. I have an idea. I can see them linking really well," Alonso said. He emphasized the need for the right balance to make these special players effective both with and without the ball.

Chelsea are also expected to announce the £52 million signing of French defender Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace, which would make him the club's oldest signing since 2022. Additionally, the Blues have brought in winger Geovany Quenda from Sporting, striker Emmanuel Emegha from Strasbourg, and full-back Marco Palestra from Atalanta. Midfielder Valentin Barco is also expected to join from Strasbourg soon.

With nearly 40 players in the squad, Chelsea will need to sell a substantial number. Alonso acknowledged that further movement is likely before the transfer window closes, but stressed that the club has a clear plan and will remain flexible to act quickly.
