Alonso Eyes Reunion with Xhaka – Chelsea Target Swiss Midfielder
New Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso is interested in signing Granit Xhaka, a former player of his at Bayer Leverkusen, currently at Sunderland.

Chelsea's new manager Xabi Alonso is looking to reunite with Granit Xhaka, a player he previously coached at Bayer Leverkusen. Under Alonso, Xhaka was a key figure in the midfield as Leverkusen won the Bundesliga title in 2024 without a single defeat.
Now 33 years old, the Swiss international joined Sunderland last summer and has been instrumental for the club, serving as captain and missing only four league games last season. Sunderland finished seventh in the Premier League, ahead of Chelsea who placed tenth. Xhaka's contract runs until 2028, and he boasts 259 Premier League appearances, mostly for Arsenal.
No agreement has been reached yet between the clubs or with the player, but it is expected that the transfer will face no major obstacles.
