A large family from Rugāji, initially unable to secure a bank loan, has bought a house in the countryside with help from the state development finance institution ALTUM. Digna Krilova says she and her husband had long dreamed of owning their own home, but banks rejected their loan application due to low income per family member.
After unsuccessful attempts at banks, Digna turned to ALTUM, where she received not only a loan for purchasing a home in the regions but also a "Balsts" subsidy. This state grant of 8,000 to 12,000 euros is intended to reduce the down payment. To qualify, a family must have at least three children or a child with a disability, along with other conditions.
The family has already bought the house "Upenāji" in Rudzāti parish. Digna emphasizes that the house found them – she and her husband simultaneously came across the same advertisement. Currently, a flock of chickens already lives on the property, and the family plans to move in fully by autumn.
Digna says she is grateful that the bank loan did not go through, as ALTUM's offer was more favorable. She praises ALTUM staff for their responsiveness and interest, and recommends this opportunity to other families. She believes that country life gives children a place to grow and always return to, and working on their own property is a joy.
