Julian Alvarez has revealed he wants to leave Atletico Madrid, saying a transfer would be best for all parties. The 26-year-old Argentina international made the comments after his country's World Cup victory over Austria, where he came off the bench. Alvarez is currently representing Argentina at the World Cup, having recovered from an ankle injury that limited him to substitute appearances in the first two matches.

Alvarez said he has spoken with the relevant people at Atletico and believes a move is the best option. 'I want to fulfil my dream,' he stated, while acknowledging it was not the ideal time to discuss his future but preferring to be honest. The forward has attracted interest from Barcelona and Paris St-Germain, and earlier in June, Atletico turned down a 150 million euro (£130m) offer from rivals Real Madrid.

Alvarez joined Atletico from Manchester City for £81.5m in the summer of 2024. In his 106 appearances for Diego Simeone's side, he scored 49 goals and provided 17 assists. His goal tally dropped from 17 in his debut La Liga season to just 8 in the 2025-26 campaign. However, he shone in the Champions League, netting 10 goals as Atletico reached the semi-finals, where they lost to Arsenal.
