Amazon Swaps Grubhub for Uber Eats as Prime Restaurant Delivery Partner in the US
Amazon has named Uber Eats its official restaurant delivery partner for Prime members in the United States, ending its deal with Grubhub. Members will be able to order food directly via Amazon's website and app.

Amazon, the US e-commerce company, announced on Thursday, November 5, that Uber Eats will become its official restaurant delivery partner for Prime members in the United States. The move effectively ends Amazon's existing arrangement with food delivery platform Grubhub. Prime is Amazon's paid subscription program offering extra benefits to customers.
Under the new partnership, Prime members can order food from Uber Eats directly through Amazon.com and the Amazon Shopping app. The companies say members will not need an Uber account and will pay no delivery fee on orders above $25. To kick off the initiative, Prime members get $20 off a first order of $25 or more during the first two weeks.
An Amazon spokesperson said the commercial agreement that gave Prime members access to Grubhub+ ends Thursday. The company said it continuously evaluates its third-party offers and, through that process, saw an opportunity to provide a better restaurant delivery experience.
A deeper tie with Uber
Amazon and Uber already work together in several areas: cloud computing, Zoox robotaxis, and the integration of Uber Eats into Amazon's AI-powered Alexa+ assistant. The new deal also gives Amazon another perk to help justify the annual Prime membership fee.
Background
Amazon first struck a deal with Grubhub in 2022, offering Prime members a free Grubhub+ subscription. Two years later the agreement was expanded, making the free membership an ongoing offer. At that time Amazon also agreed with Grubhub's then-owner, Just Eat Takeaway.com, to raise its equity stake in Grubhub by as much as 18%. Months later, Just Eat Takeaway announced plans to sell Grubhub to Wonder. According to the company's annual report, Amazon chose in December 2024 to cash out its outstanding exercisable warrants. The commercial partnership nonetheless continued until now.
