Amazon launches new Fire TV Stick 4K that can be powered directly by your TV
Amazon has released a new Fire TV Stick 4K that no longer needs a separate power adapter and can draw power directly from a TV's USB port. The launch also brings a redesigned remote and several software updates.
Amazon began selling a new Fire TV Stick 4K today, bringing a notable change to setup: the device no longer requires a separate power adapter. It can instead be powered directly from a TV's USB port, similar to the entry-level Fire TV Stick model Amazon released earlier this year. The new stick costs $59.99 and runs on Amazon's refreshed TV operating system, supporting Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, and Bluetooth Low Energy.
With this release, Amazon is also streamlining its streaming device lineup, trimming it from five devices to four: the Fire TV Stick HD, Fire TV Stick 4K, Fire TV Stick 4K Max, and Fire TV Cube. The new Fire TV Stick 4K replaces the previous "Select" and "Plus" 4K models.
New remote and software updates
Alongside the new streaming stick, Amazon is introducing a redesigned Fire TV Remote with an asymmetrical shape and more tactile buttons. The new remote works with all Amazon Ember TVs and Fire TV devices released since 2019. It will be sold separately for $14.99, with shipping starting in late October. Amazon also plans to release a "Plus" version of the remote early next year, featuring an aluminum design, backlit buttons, and a feature to help locate a lost remote.
Fire TV is also getting several software updates, including an Alexa Plus Hub and Alexa Plus integration within the Fire TV mobile app. Amazon says its AI now draws on real-world context, such as awards and events, to better handle more complex requests for show and movie recommendations. A new Amazon Music app for Fire TV is also planned for later this fall, including Alexa Plus integration for music and podcast suggestions.
