Anaheim Ducks to Retire Former Captain Getzlaf's Jersey Number
The Anaheim Ducks will raise former captain Ryan Getzlaf's jersey to the rafters before their January 30 game against the Nashville Predators, making him the fourth player honored by the club.
Ryan Getzlaf will become only the fourth player in Anaheim Ducks history to have his jersey and number retired to the arena rafters. He follows Teemu Selanne (No. 8), Paul Kariya (No. 9) and Scott Niedermayer (No. 27), who were honored before him.
Getzlaf spent his entire 17-season NHL career with the Ducks, playing at center. He holds the franchise records for games played (1,157), points (1,019) and assists (737). In the playoffs, he is also the club's all-time leader in games played (125), goals scored (37), assists (83) and points (120).
A long-serving captain
Getzlaf wore the Ducks' captaincy for 12 seasons before retiring following the 2021-22 season. His number will be retired before the team's home game against the Nashville Predators on January 30. Two days earlier, ahead of a game against the Chicago Blackhawks, the club plans to mark the 20th anniversary of its 2007 Stanley Cup championship, which Getzlaf also won.
He was a three-time NHL All-Star and finished as runner-up for the league's MVP award in 2014, behind only Sidney Crosby.
Internationally, Getzlaf won Olympic gold with Team Canada in 2010 and 2014 and helped Canada win the 2016 World Cup of Hockey. He also holds gold medals from the U18 and U20 World Championships.
