Anbernic's new RG 55G1 handheld, modeled after the Switch Lite, launches August 31
Anbernic will begin selling the RG 55G1, a horizontal gaming handheld resembling Nintendo's Switch Lite but built for retro game emulation, starting August 31 at a $150 base price.
Chinese handheld maker Anbernic continues expanding its lineup of devices inspired by Nintendo's most popular consoles. Its latest release, the RG 55G1, closely resembles the Switch Lite in appearance but is designed specifically for emulating retro games rather than running original titles.
Anbernic first revealed the device's specifications back in June, and has now confirmed its release date and pricing. The RG 55G1 will go on sale starting August 31 at 6AM ET (3AM PT).
Hardware specs
In a notable shift, this marks Anbernic's first handheld built around a Qualcomm chip — the Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 — the same processor found in the Retroid Pocket Classic. This hardware should allow the device to emulate games up to the PS2 or Wii generation. The handheld runs on Android 14.
Like the Switch Lite, the RG 55G1 features a 5.5-inch display, but with a sharper 1,920 x 1,080 resolution. It sets itself apart with two symmetrical Hall effect joysticks and a battery life rated up to eight hours.
Pricing and configurations
Buyers can choose from three colorways: black, indigo and retro gray. Two memory configurations are available — 4GB of RAM with 64GB of storage, or 8GB of RAM with 128GB of storage. Pricing starts at $150, rising to $225 for the top configuration bundled with an extra 256GB microSD card. Anbernic is also offering a $10 discount during the first three days of sale.
