‘I Love This Earth Madness!’ Poet Anda Līce Transforms Overgrown Plot into a Tidy Garden
Poet Anda Līce, at the age of 80, single-handedly turned a neglected plot in Cesvaine into a beautiful garden, continuing her work even after suffering a head injury and undergoing two surgeries.

Several years ago, poet Anda Līce acquired a small garden plot next to an apartment building in Cesvaine, after having celebrated her 80th birthday. She enthusiastically threw herself into what she calls "earth madness," transforming the overgrown land into a neat garden with her own hands. Despite sustaining a head injury during an icy winter, which required two surgeries, Līce did not stop gardening. The following autumn, she completed the garden work by crawling on a wax cloth, as she was not allowed to bend. The poet emphasizes that the garden serves as one of her therapy spaces.
