Latvia's Sietiņa finishes seventh among world's top javelin throwers in Budapest
Latvian javelin thrower Anete Sietiņa placed seventh at the Ultimate Championship in Budapest with a throw of 58.17 metres. Japan's Haruka Kitaguchi won the event with a new national record.
The World Athletics-organized Ultimate Championship is currently underway in Budapest, featuring Latvia's Anete Sietiņa in the women's javelin throw. In her first attempt, Sietiņa threw the javelin 58.17 metres, followed by 56.22 metres in her second attempt.
Under the competition format, athletes placed seventh and eighth after the first two rounds did not advance further, so Sietiņa's final result stood at 58.17 metres, securing seventh place among eight competitors. Only Norway's Sigrid Borge finished behind the Latvian athlete, with a throw of 50.88 metres.
Japanese athlete wins with new record
The competition was won by Japan's Haruka Kitaguchi, who set a new Japanese national record with a throw of 68.92 metres. China's Yang Jiayu took second place with 68.05 metres, while Colombia's Flor Denis Ruiz Hurtado finished third at 64.84 metres. The remaining positions went to Australia's Mackenzie Little (63.37 metres), Serbia's Adriana Vilagoša (61.37 metres) and New Zealand's Tori Moorby (58.95 metres).
The Ultimate Championship brings together current Olympic and world champions, Diamond League winners, and top-ranked athletes worldwide, making for a small but elite field. Sietiņa's best result this season is 60.05 metres, the lowest mark among the eight competitors.
The competition is being held in the Hungarian capital Budapest from September 11 to 13.
