Additionally, the USA has a ten-match losing streak against European teams. Bosnia and Herzegovina is playing in its second World Cup and its first-ever knockout match. In the group stage, they beat Qatar, drew with Canada, and lost 1-4 to Switzerland.

The winners of these matches will meet in the next round: the England/DR Congo winner plays Mexico, while the Belgium/Senegal and USA/Bosnia winners face each other.
