England come from behind to beat South Africa and reach Commonwealth Games semi-finals

England's netballers are through to the semi-finals of the Commonwealth Games after a stunning 58-54 victory over South Africa. Both teams entered the match level on six points in Pool A, with England holding the second spot due to a superior goal average. That meant the Roses only needed to avoid defeat to progress.

South Africa started strongly, thanks to Elmere van der Berg, who scored 16 of her team's 17 goals in the opening quarter, giving her side a six-goal lead. England faced an uphill battle, but a tactical change made a difference. Substitute Halimat Adio came on in the second quarter and produced some outstanding defensive work, sparking several counter-attacks that helped England cut the deficit to just one point at half-time, trailing 29-28.

The third quarter saw England take control, at one stage opening a seven-goal lead. South Africa responded with three quick goals, but England still went into the final 15 minutes leading 43-39. The last quarter was a tense affair, with both teams scoring 15 goals each. However, the 2018 champions held their nerve to maintain their remarkable record of reaching every Commonwealth Games semi-final since netball was introduced in 1998.

England will now face New Zealand in the last four on Saturday. For South Africa, the wait for a first semi-final appearance since 1998 continues.
