The 2026 FIFA World Cup semifinal between England and Argentina will take place on Wednesday in Atlanta. The winner will play Spain in Sunday's final, while the loser will face France for third place on Saturday.

The two teams have met five times in World Cup history, often in highly charged encounters. England won in 1962 and 1966, Argentina prevailed in 1986 with Diego Maradona's famous goals, Argentina won on penalties in 1998, and England secured a 1-0 victory in 2002. England's path to the semifinal included group stage wins over Croatia, Ghana, and Panama, followed by knockout victories against DR Congo, Mexico, and Norway. Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane have each scored six goals in the tournament.

Argentina has won all five matches so far: against Algeria, Austria, Jordan, Cape Verde (extra time), Egypt (comeback), and Switzerland (extra time). Lionel Messi leads the team with eight goals in this tournament, and his 21 World Cup goals overall make him the all-time record holder. Kylian Mbappé also has eight goals this tournament and 20 overall.

In the first semifinal on Tuesday, Spain defeated France 2-0. This is the first World Cup with 48 teams, co-hosted by Mexico, the United States, and Canada. Argentina were the champions in 2022.
