England Team Greeted with Boos at Mexico City Hotel Ahead of World Cup Clash

The England national football team received a hostile reception upon arriving at their hotel in Mexico City on Friday. Hundreds of local residents were waiting outside as the team bus pulled up, with some chanting "Mexico" and others booing the players.

Security has been significantly increased at the hotel. Members of Mexico's National Guard lined the entrance, while riot police officers stood behind barriers on the road outside. These measures follow an earlier incident involving Ecuador, who played Mexico in the round of 32 in the same city.

Ecuador players were deliberately kept awake by local supporters, who used loudspeakers, horns and motorcycles late at night outside their team hotel. Ecuador subsequently filed a noise complaint with FIFA, but Mexico went on to win the match 2-0. Ecuador had stayed at the Westin Hotel.

England had hoped to keep their location undisclosed, but there were concerns the address would leak. The team will face Mexico on Sunday (01:00 BST Monday) in a match broadcast live on BBC One and iPlayer.
