The Premier League enters a near three-week international break after five rounds of matches, a period that has already produced several surprises.

Arsenal suffer heaviest defeat since 2023

Champions Arsenal, who had been on an impressive winning run, suffered a surprise 3-0 loss away to Brighton on Saturday — their heaviest league defeat since May 2023, when they lost by the same scoreline to the same opponent. Manager Mikel Arteta called it an important lesson while praising the team's overall performance in recent weeks.

Maresca off to a strong start at Manchester City

Manchester City, now managed by Enzo Maresca following Pep Guardiola's departure, have won all five of their league games. A 5-3 win over Sunderland on Sunday moved them three points clear of Arsenal at the top.

Brighton and Brentford continue to impress

Brighton sit third in the table after their win over Arsenal, while Brentford, managed by Keith Andrews, remain unbeaten after five games and sit fourth following a 3-0 home win over Chelsea.

Tough start for Manchester United and Tottenham

Manchester United, led by manager Michael Carrick, have collected only five points from five games, one of their weakest starts in Premier League history, following a 1-1 draw with Fulham. Tottenham, despite heavy summer spending, sit 19th after a 3-2 loss to Aston Villa.

Chelsea provide entertainment

Under manager Xabi Alonso, Chelsea have been involved in high-scoring matches, with 22 goals in their five league games combined, and currently sit 10th in the table.
