England have named a 16-player squad for next month's one-day tri-series in Pakistan, recalling leg-spinner Mason Crane after eight years away while Jofra Archer is not involved.

England have confirmed their squad for next month's one-day international tri-series in Pakistan, which also features Sri Lanka.

The headline inclusion is leg-spinner Mason Crane, who returns to the England fold for the first time in eight years. The 29-year-old earned his only Test cap against Australia in Sydney back in 2018 and also featured in two T20 internationals in 2017. The tri-series gives him a chance to stake a claim as England's leading spin option in Test cricket as well.

Sam Curran and Adil Rashid both come back into the squad following spells out through injury, while uncapped duo James Coles and Henry Crocombe have also been included. Jos Buttler misses out after sustaining a hamstring injury last week, and Jacob Bethell remains unavailable as he continues to recover from knee surgery.

Brydon Carse is also absent from the squad while the Cricket Regulator investigates an incident involving him outside a nightclub in Derby in August.

England's build-up to the 50-over World Cup in southern Africa next year continues with an extended spell of white-ball cricket. After the tri-series in Pakistan, where sides will face each other twice before the top two meet in a final, England travel to Australia in November for three one-day internationals and five T20 matches. Three Test matches in South Africa follow in December.

There are also changes among the coaching staff for the Pakistan trip. White-ball head coach Brendon McCullum will be assisted by Jeetan Patel, Mike Yardy, David Saker and Carl Hopkinson, while Marcus Trescothick — who had been in temporary charge of the Test side over the home summer — will not be part of the travelling party, as England continue to rotate coaching responsibilities across their winter tours.
