On Sunday, English referee Sam Barrott took charge of the Community Shield match in Cardiff, Wales, where Arsenal beat Manchester City 3:0. He showed two yellow cards to each side during the game.

This season Barrott has already officiated two other European club matches, issuing four yellow cards in each. In the Champions League second-round return leg, he refereed the match between Ireland's Shamrock Rovers and Armenia's Ararat-Armenia, which ended 2:1. In the Conference League third-round first leg, he took charge of the match between Netherlands' Twente and Slovakia's DAC, won by the home side 6:0.

Background and record

Barrott has been officiating in the English Premier League since 2024. Last season he issued only one red card, suggesting a relatively lenient approach to refereeing.

According to published information about his upcoming assignments, the experienced official will soon also officiate European matches involving Latvia's and Riga's champion clubs.
