Anikina reaches European U14 tennis championship final
Estonian tennis player Elizaveta Anikina has advanced to the final of the European U14 championship, where she will face Ukrainian Maria Kocherzhenko.

Estonia's eighth-ranked tennis player Elizaveta Anikina has secured a spot in the final of the European Tennis Championship for girls under 14. Seeded 16th in the tournament, the 14-year-old faced 15th-seeded Ukrainian Anna Kuznetsova in the semifinal. The match ended prematurely when Kuznetsova retired at 6:3, 3:0, handing victory to Anikina.
In the final, Anikina will meet 13-year-old Ukrainian Maria Kocherzhenko, who is the top seed. Kocherzhenko reached the final by defeating Swiss player Liv Brecher 6:4, 7:6 in the semifinal. The two finalists have met before, in an exhibition match in Tallinn in November 2024, which Anikina won 5:3, 4:2.
According to ERR, the only previous Estonian female junior singles champion in Europe was Kaia Kanepi, who achieved that feat 26 years ago. Anikina now has a chance to follow in Kanepi's footsteps.
