Ansis and Monta Klintsoni mark 18 years of marriage built on support and humor

Latvian musician and media personality Ansis Klintsons and his wife Monta recently celebrated 18 years of marriage. In an interview, the couple shared that their relationship still rests on mutual support, trust and the freedom to be themselves.

How they met and their yearly tradition

The two met twenty years ago on the Latvian social network draugiem.lv, when Monta, who had once followed Ansis's music career, sent him a friend request. After months of messaging, they arranged their first date at the Laima Clock in Riga on February 9. Every year since, on that same date, the couple returns to the clock to take a photo together — a tradition they've kept for two decades.

Small disagreements, not big dramas

The Klintsoni say their relationship isn't marked by dramatic fights but rather small disagreements that get resolved immediately rather than allowed to build up. They emphasize the value of comfortable silence together and accept that partners don't need to share every interest to have a strong bond.

Family and traditions

The couple has two daughters — 27-year-old Marta and 14-year-old Anna. The family has a tradition of eating dinner together and discussing the day's events, jokingly calling it "Anna's podcast." For more than a decade, they have also thrown a themed Halloween party every year, choosing a new decoration theme each time.

The book "Kaku stāsti"

Last year, after Monta lost her job, the couple decided to finally publish a long-planned book collecting humorous family stories about awkward bathroom mishaps. The book, "Kaku stāsti," became a bestseller, and a second volume is expected this autumn, featuring reader comments and a section on toilet culture around the world.
