Anthropic merges Claude chat and Cowork into a single interface

Anthropic has announced a redesign of its Claude AI assistant, merging the previously separate chat and Cowork front-ends into a single window. In the unified interface, users can access chat, Cowork tools, and Artifacts — Claude's interactive workspace feature — without leaving one screen. Claude Design, a feature introduced in April for website and prototype creation, is now also available anywhere within Claude.

The company said that before this change, customers often struggled to figure out which tab to use for a given task. In the new design, Claude automatically routes requests to the right feature, removing the need to switch between tabs or windows. The goal is a single front-end that directs work to the appropriate part of the app.

New tools for presentations and documents

Alongside the interface merger, Anthropic is introducing dedicated features for creating presentations and documents. Users can now ask Claude to create, edit and present slides, and download the finished presentation as a PDF or PowerPoint file. A similar Docs feature lets users work alongside Claude to build out sections, ask questions, and comment on completed parts.

Generated documents or slides can be shared via a link and edited from a phone. Users can also start a document on desktop and later check its progress through the mobile app.

The new features are rolling out first to Claude's Pro and Max plans across web, desktop and mobile over the coming weeks, with free and team tiers to follow later. The update follows a recent upgrade to Cowork's memory layer, which helps Claude retain user context across chats.
